    OSC Discovery Method

    The state of the art for discovery of other OSC clients on the local network (so that users don't have to manually type in port numbers and IP addresses) is to use ZeroConf also known as Rendezvous or Bonjour as implemented by Apple.

        This video provides an insight into the Network Performing Arts Production Workshop hosted by the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna (mdw), in Vienna in March 2013. More information about this European workshop, and the previous ones, can be found on the TERENA website: http://www.terena.org/activities/netw... The 'Near in the Distance' special evening event included a live musical performance between four Austria musicians (Franz Hautzinger - trumpet; Martin Brandlmayr - drums; Martin Siewert -- guitars, lap & pedal steel, electronics; Dieb13 - turntables) based at the mdw venue, and the Alliance Quartet Vienna (Marko Radonic - Violine; Armando Toledo - Violine; Natalia Binkowska - Viola; Johanna Kotschy - Violoncello) located at the Aula Magna of Conservatorio G. Tartini in Trieste, Italy. There was also a remote ballet performance with Austrian dancer Domink Grünbühel, and Rosa Sánchez, of the Barcelona-based Kònic thtr, performing together while located respectively at the mdw venue and Gran Teatre del Liceu Opera House.

            Roland Kayn and the Development of Cybernetic Music

            Roland Kayn (1933-2011) was a German composer who studied in Stuttgart at the “Hochschule fur Musik”, and at the “Technische Hochschule” with Max Bense. He was a pupil of of Boris Blacher at the “Hochschule fur Musik” in Berlin from 1956 to 1958 and he later worked in various music studios in Germany, Netherlands and Italy.

            The Artsmesh: Recent Talk at UCSB

            In Radio as an Apparatus of Communication, Brecht wrote, “Thus there was a moment when technology was advanced enough to produce the radio and society was not yet advanced enough to accept it.” He lamented the lost creative opportunity of a perfectly capable bi-directional medium which gravitated instead toward broadcasting. Walter Benjamin formulated how radio and TV reflected the image of the economic system. It was not a limitation of technology, but a limitation of social capacitance that patterned the communicational potential toward the one-to-many model.
